How to Classify Aviation Connectors

Aviation plugs and sockets (also known as aviation connectors) can be classified in various ways. The core classification criteria are based on structure, application, connection method, and environmental adaptability. The following are the most commonly used classification types in industrial production and application:

Classification by Connection Method

· Threaded Connection Type: Locking is achieved by rotating the plug shell. It features excellent anti-vibration and anti-impact performance, making it suitable for high-vibration scenarios such as airborne and shipboard applications, for example, signal connections around aero-engines. (eg:12G/GX series/H series...)

· Bayonet Connection Type: It adopts a "rotation-locking" quick-lock structure, which can usually be locked by rotating a quarter or half a turn. It has high plugging and unplugging efficiency and is often used in aviation equipment that requires frequent disassembly and assembly.(eg:Z108/ZSWF/DDK/18-10/22-22series)

· Straight Plug Connection Type: No rotation is needed; it is fixed by plugging force and buckles. With a simple structure and small size, it is suitable for internal connections of compact instruments.eg:SF/XS/YC series

Classification by Shape Structure and Installation Mode

· Circular Aviation Plugs and Sockets: The most common type with a cylindrical shell. It has good anti-interference performance and high mechanical strength, and is widely used for power and signal transmission in aerospace, aviation, military and other fields.

Rectangular Aviation Plugs and Sockets: It has a rectangular shell and can achieve multi-core and high-density arrangement. It is suitable for integrated installation on cabinets and equipment panels, such as instrument interfaces in aircraft cockpits.(eg:DDK series/MY18 series)

· Printed Circuit Type: It is directly welded on the PCB board, with the socket fixed on the circuit board and the plug used for connecting external devices. It is suitable for internal signal interaction of small airborne electronic equipment.(noted-PCB)

Classification by Environmental Protection Level

· General-Purpose Type: Without special protection, it is only suitable for dry, dust-free cabin environments, such as the connection of non-critical equipment in aircraft cabins.

· Waterproof and Dustproof Type: Its protection level reaches IP65 or above, and it can be used in humid and dusty environments, such as the connection of helicopter landing gears and airborne external sensors.YunHong major connector are waterproof

· High/Low Temperature Resistant Type: It can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -55℃ to 200℃, and is suitable for scenarios such as aero-engine compartments and high-temperature equipment surroundings.

· Corrosion Resistant Type: The shell is made of stainless steel, titanium alloy or special plating, which can resist salt spray and chemical corrosion. It is suitable for shipboard and coastal airport aviation equipment.

Classification by Transmission Medium

· Electrical Signal Type: The most mainstream type, used for transmitting current and voltage signals. It can be further divided into power type (large current, thick pins) and signal type (small current, multi-pin, high density).

· RF Type: Used for transmitting high-frequency radio frequency signals, such as the connection of aircraft communication and radar systems, with extremely strict requirements for impedance matching.

· Optoelectronic Hybrid Type: It integrates both electrical signal pins and optical fiber channels, and can transmit electrical and optical signals synchronously. It is suitable for high-speed data transmission systems in advanced avionics equipment.

Classification by Reliability of Locking Mechanism

· Locking Type: Equipped with locking structures such as threads, bayonets and shrapnel, it has strong anti-loosening performance and is used for key airborne equipment, such as flight control systems and navigation systems.

· Non-locking Type: Without additional locking structures, it is only fixed by plugging friction. It is used for temporary connections or non-critical equipment, such as temporary interfaces for testing.
